How to Make Your Own Moss Wall at Home: A Beginner's Guide

Creating your own DIY moss wall is a simple way to bring nature-inspired design into your home. Unlike a living plant wall, preserved moss requires no watering, soil, or sunlight, making it perfect for apartments, offices, and creative spaces.

At Terrart NYC, we create moss art and teach in-person and virtual moss wall workshops. Here's a simple beginner-friendly process.

What Do You Need?

To create a preserved moss wall, you'll need:

  • Wood frame
  • Several varieties of preserved moss
  • Driftwood or cork
  • Preserved flowers or botanical accents
  • Adhesive
  • Scissors and tweezers

Using different moss textures helps create depth and gives your design a more natural appearance.

How to Make a DIY Moss Wall

  1. Plan Your Design
Arrange your moss, driftwood, and larger elements before gluing. Create a forest-inspired landscape, an abstract composition, or simply follow your creativity.
  2.  Build the Moss Foundation
Start with larger sections of mood or sheet moss, then introduce additional moss varieties for texture and dimension.

3. Add Natural Elements
Use driftwood, cork, flowers, and botanical accents to create focal points and movement.

4. Secure Your Design
Once you're happy with the composition, glue each element in place and allow it to dry completely
