How Sustainability Became Part of the Terrart NYC DNA

For Terrart NYC, sustainability isn't simply a trend or marketing message. It's connected to how our family has understood and worked with nature for more than 40 years.

Our family's terrarium tradition began in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1984, creating miniature landscapes where plants, moss, soil, water, and natural materials work together as an ecosystem. When Terrart NYC was established in Brooklyn, New York, that same understanding of nature became part of the foundation of our business.

Small Ecosystems, Bigger Lessons

Our closed terrariums demonstrate something powerful on a very small scale: nature knows how to reuse its resources.

Inside a balanced closed ecosystem, water evaporates, condenses on the glass, and returns to the soil. Plants continue growing while moisture circulates through the environment.

That's why our workshops aren't simply about making something beautiful. We use terrariums to introduce participants to concepts such as the water cycle, photosynthesis, biodiversity, ecosystem balance, and responsible plant care.

Sustainability becomes something participants can actually see and understand.

Creating Nature With Less Maintenance

Our approach has expanded beyond terrariums.

Terrart NYC's preserved moss walls and moss art bring natural textures into homes, offices, and commercial spaces without requiring watering, soil, irrigation systems, or sunlight.

Our DIY kits and virtual workshops also allow people across the United States to experience botanical design and environmental education.

Across every part of the company, we continue looking for ways to combine nature, creativity, education, and thoughtful design.

Proud Members of 1% for the Planet

Since 2022, Terrart NYC has been a proud member of 1% for the Planet, joining a global community of businesses committed to supporting environmental organizations and creating positive environmental impact.

Our involvement goes beyond membership. In 2023, Terrart NYC also donated to the 1% for the Planet Global Summit, supporting an event that brings together businesses, environmental partners, and changemakers committed to protecting our planet.

For us, participating in this community reflects a simple belief: if nature is at the heart of our business, giving back to nature should be part of our responsibility.

Sustainability Through Education

One of our greatest opportunities to create an impact is through education.

Thousands of participants have joined our terrarium workshops, moss art classes, corporate events, community programs, and virtual experiences. Every workshop creates an opportunity to start conversations about plants, ecosystems, natural resources, and our relationship with the environment.

We believe sustainability becomes more meaningful when people can experience it with their own hands.

Growing With Purpse

Terrart NYC has grown from a family terrarium tradition into an award-winning Brooklyn botanical business, but our connection to nature remains at the center of everything we do.

As we continue expanding our DIY kits, workshops, moss art, retail partnerships, and nationwide experiences, sustainability will continue evolving with us.

Because bringing nature closer to people also means taking responsibility for helping protect it.

Nature isn't simply part of what we create. It's part of who we are.
